Crime Prevention The most essential action to take is to call Call 911 immediately: When you see a vehicle or people that seem even the least bit suspicious to you such as persons loitering, going door to door, or the sound of glass breaking Any attempt to break into your house, garage or vehicle, such as cuts on window screens, broken auto glass, or rummaging through your car. Make sure you: Get license plate numbers Get a police report. Ask for a call back from the 911 operator to find out what happened. Crime Prevention Tips:
Lock all doors and first floor windows when you leave your home unattended. (even when you are in the backyard or at a neighbors) Close your blinds and/or shades on first floor windows and doors. Keep a light on inside the house and always have good exterior lighting at night. Always activate your house alarm before you leave. Tell a neighbor to park in your driveway when you take a vacation or leave town. Vacation: Cancel your mail and newspaper (don’t rely on someone to pick it up every day) Keep your bushes and landscaping trimmed around the inner perimeter of your home. Never leave items of any value in your car. Install and use deadbolt locks on all exterior doors. Install motion sensor lights. Lock up ladders and trash totes where they cannot be used by a burglar. Don’t leave returnable cans, etc. out for the “homeless”. Never open your door to a stranger. |
